Welcome to the website of handball club Cabezota. Cabezota has been the handball club of the University of Twente in Enschede since 1964. Unfortunately (for you,) most information on this website is still in Dutch. The most important information will be summarized in English in this section. If you want to know more about Cabezota, you can always use the contact form.
Playing handball
Handball is a fast and dynamic game. The fast changes between offense and defense ask a lot from the players, but it makes handball a fascinating sport. The goal of handball is - as in most other ballgames - to score more goals than your opponent. It's very difficult to describe the sensation of handball in words. If you want to know how it is to play handball, you better try it yourself. You are always welcome at one of our trainings.
Competition
At this moment there are two men's teams and two ladies' teams. So we have room for everyone: from experienced players to people who start playing handball at Cabezota and don't want to miss the matches. Matches are played on Saterday evening or Sunday during the day.
Next to playing competition, it is possible to just join the trainings and stay in shape. Furthermore, every member can join the tournaments we visit during the year.
Activities
Because the club is rather small (about 50 members at the moment), we do a lot of things together besides playing handball. That makes Cabezota a good place to get to know other students from the University of Twente. After the trainings, we usually stay in the sports canteen to talk and have a few drinks. Furthermore, a lot of activities like 'Sinterklaas', a barbecue, a games night, going to the movies, bowling, etcetera are organised. We also go to international (handball) matches or matches of the German handball club Nordhorn (German Premier Division). Besides that, we join tournaments and the 'Batavierenrace' (a relay race from Nijmegen to Enschede) each year.
Trainings
Handball is not very easy in the beginning, but with the right training you'll be able to pick up the basics fairly easy.. That is why we have two trainings a week, which every member can join. The trainings are given by Jan Herman Wilmink, who used to play with Olympia and the Dutch national handball team. Feel free to join our trainings once or twice without obligations.
The trainings are on Tuesdays from 19.30-21.00 (ladies) and 21.00-22.30 (men) and on Thursdays from 18.00-19.30 (ladies) and 19.30-21.00 (men) in the Sports centre of the University of Twente.
During the summer holidays and the introduction period of the Univerisity of Twente, the trainings will be held on the beach fields at the campus. When enough people are interested, the trainings will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 19.30h.
Please have a look in the agenda for the latest information on training hours.
Membership
It is possible to join our club if you want to play competition with us, but also if you only want to join the trainings. If you are interested, the easiest way to become a member of Cabezota is to come to a training and ask for a subscription form. At the moment the subscription is 29 Euro a year for training members, and 69 Euro for members who play in a competition team. Because Cabezota is an affiliate of the Student Union, it is necessary to have a Xtra card.
